Australia’s Sydney is home to the public research university known as The University of Sydney (USYD, or colloquially, Sydney Uni). It was established in 1850 as Australia’s first university and is now recognized as one of the top universities in the world. The institution is one of the six sandstone universities in Australia. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees through its eight academic faculties and university schools.

One of the first colleges to admit students entirely on the basis of academic performance, it also welcomed women on the same terms as males.

The University of Sydney International Scholarship, funded by the University of Sydney, provides a yearly scholarship to high-quality international postgraduate students who wish to study for a master’s by research or Ph.D.

Scholarship benefits and allowance:

  • Holders of the Scholarship who enroll full-time will receive a stipend of $35,629 per annum, indexed annually on 1 January. The scholarship assists with tuition fees and living costs also.
  • Reimbursement of up to $420 for Masters’s candidates will be provided.
  • Up to $840 for Doctoral candidates will be made for eligible claims for direct costs of producing a thesis, in accordance with the University’s thesis allowance policy.

Eligibility criteria for The University of Sydney Scholarship:

  1. Applicants must be an international student or commencing student at the time of the award.
  2. University of Sydney International Scholarship holders are expected to enrol in a full-time postgraduate research degree.
  3. have an outstanding record of academic achievement and research potential
  4. have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled in a master’s by research or PhD at the University of Sydney.

Application instructions:

Commencing students should select the checkbox to be considered for research scholarships when completing the admission application for their postgraduate research degree. A separate application is not required. Applications are open all year round. Find all the deadlines at this link. 

Deadline: For research periods 1 and 2, 2023, the deadline is 30 September 2022 for international students.
